Dr. Erick Omuya Profile

Dr. Erick Odhiambo Omuya

Dr. Erick Odhiambo Omuya is an academic and researcher specializing in computer science: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. He serves as a lecturer at Machakos University in the school of engineering and technology, department of Computing and information Technology. Currently he is the chairman of the department of computing and information technology (CIT) at Machakos University.

He received his Ph.D. in Information Technology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2023 and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Nairobi (UoN). He has taught in various universities including Zetech University, Multimedia University, Technical University of Kenya and currently Machakos University. He has also mentored various students undertaking projects through the luban workshop. Some of these projects have been presented in competitions and hackathons where they have done very well.

Dr. Omuya has contributed to various scholarly works, particularly in the areas of sentiment analysis and machine learning. His research and publications deal with developing AI models for improving the performance of classification, clustering and prediction using Machine/deep leaning algorithms as applied in sentiment analysis, market segmentation among others. Notably, he co-authored a paper on “Sentiment Analysis on Social Media Tweets Using Dimensionality Reduction and Natural Language Processing,” published in Engineering Reports. His research also includes studies on “Feature selection for classification using principal component analysis and information gain” which was published in Elsevier journal expert systems with applications.
