Machakos University Joins Kenya Red Cross for the “Power of Humanity Walk 2025”

In a vibrant show of unity, compassion, and community spirit, Machakos University on Saturday 17th May, 2025, partnered with Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) – Machakos Chapter to host the Power of Humanity Walk 2025.

The event kicked off with opening remarks delivered by the Chief Guest, Prof. Joyce Agalo, the Vice Chancellor of Machakos University. In her remarks, Prof. Agalo emphasized the University’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens through such partnerships and outreach programs.

A brief but impactful dissemination on the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was presented, highlighting the organization’s global humanitarian mission. Participants were then taken through a simulation on fire safety by the Director of Emergency Services and Disaster Management, supported by Fire and Rescue Marshalls, equipping them with vital emergency response knowledge.

Before the walk began, a briefing on the dos and don’ts of the walk was highlighted to the participants. The national anthem, performed by the school band, set the tone for the procession that followed — a lively and symbolic walk through Machakos town demonstrating solidarity with humanitarian causes.

After the walk, participants enjoyed a series of entertainment activities including poetry, spoken word, dance, and singing competitions. The atmosphere was electric with youthful energy and creative expression from schools and peer groups.

The afternoon session featured speeches from various partners, followed by an awarding ceremony where schools and peer contributors were recognized for their participation and talent.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and closing remarks by the KRCS Machakos Board Vice Chairperson, accompanied by a closing prayer. Guests then enjoyed open entertainment as they departed at their leisure.

The Power of Humanity Walk not only celebrated the values of the Red Cross Movement but also reinforced the role of institutions like Machakos University in promoting peace, preparedness, and people-centered service.
