Machakos University was awarded a Charter on 7th October 2017 and is a successor of Machakos University College. It is located one (1) Km from Machakos Town along the main Machakos – Wote road.

1. CHIEF INTERNAL AUDITOR – GRADE 15- MKSU/HR/CIA/18 |
Job description
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor and is responsible for the Provision of financial and administrative oversight to the operations of the University. This is through conducting of regular audit trails to financial and administrative procedures to ensure adherence to transparency, relevance and accountability requirements. Main Responsibilities a) Ensure compliance to sound internal audit principles, relevant statutes, government policies and best practices in execution of audit procedures within the University. b) Design and coordinate the execution of the annual audit plan in line with conventional audit guidelines and best practices so as to ensure compliance to stipulated financial management regulations c) Ensure proper interpretation of financial policies for sound auditing practices and control. d) Liaise with external auditors for implementation of institution wide audit procedures and ensure implementation of their recommendations. e) Make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed, report on the findings and recommendations and monitor management’s response and implementation f) Manage staff within the department including target setting, performance evaluation, mentoring, training and development of staff for effective service delivery. g) Maintain Audit working files to ensure working papers are complete and available audit evidence fully supports audit opinions and recommendations h) Receive and review external auditor’s reports and management responses thereto including the actions taken to address material issues raised i) Review the University’s operations on various compliance with the relevant statutes, policies, rules, regulations, administrative government circulars and guidelines j) Ensure proper preparation of audit reports, presentation of the same to the Audit & Compliance Committee on quarterly basis and implementation of audit recommendations Job Requirements (a) Must have an earned Masters degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or its equivalent and CPA (K) with fifteen (15) years’ experience in accounting or auditing, three (3) at the level of Deputy Chief Finance Officer/ Deputy Chief Internal Auditor Grade 14 or equivalent. (b) Be a member of a recognized Professional Accounting body. (c) ICPAK membership/ Institute of Internal Auditors of Kenya (IIAK). (d) Computer Literate. (e) Ph.D. degree will be an added advantage. |
2. CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER – GRADE 14- MKSU/ HR /CPO/18 |
Job Description
This position reports to the vice chancellor and is responsible for coordination of all activities involved in the procurement process i.e. sourcing, purchase and supply of materials and services within the University. Main Responsibilities a) Offer regular recommendations to the vice chancellor on awarding of tenders, disposal for contract awards and potential cost saving areas for effective decision making b) Ensure the continuous adherence to the public procurement law in all departmental operations c) Oversee the regular performance of risk assessment of supply contracts so as to identify the least risky contracts to venture into. d) Engage in regular consultation with other departmental heads within the University for establishment of agreements on procurement of various goods or services required by the departments. e) Approve regular and periodic purchase requisitions channeled by various departments within the University so as to ascertain compliance to the internal procurement regulations f) Ensure the creation and sustenance of profitable partnerships with suppliers through close liaison for long term quality service delivery by the suppliers. g) Oversee the continuous adherence to performance contracting requirements set for the department so as to achieve the desired performance targets h) Oversee the continuous implementation of supply chain management systems and periodic review of the same for establishing effectiveness in the procurement process. i) Participate in asset disposal procedures when need be so as to offer professional and technical insights on the same for maximum returns j) Conduct annual training needs assessment for subordinate staff so as to identify areas that require training sessions for enhanced staff productivity. Job Requirements (a) Must have an earned Master’s Degree in Supplies or equivalent qualification. (b) Must have an earned Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supplies or equivalent. (c) Practicing License from Kenya Institute of Purchasing and Supplies (KISM). (d) Twelve (12) years’ work experience, three (3) of which as Deputy Procurement Manager Grade 13 or equivalent. (e) Membership to professional body |
3. SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER – GRADE 12 – MKSU/ HR /SLO/18 |
Job Description
This position reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Planning and Finance and is responsible for legal matters in the University. Main Responsibilities a) Preparing and collecting evidence and exhibition as required in court. b) Liaise with other departments on legal matters, service bonds. c) Ensure the university operates within the law. d) Develop and manage University policies. e) Preparing University policies and regulations. f) Drafting of legal documents, handling cases involving the University in liaison with external lawyers. g) Attending court cases where necessary, coordinating legal matters in the University Job Requirements Must have; (a) Must have an earned A holder of LLM degree from a recognized university or equivalent institution (b) Registered with the Kenya School of Law (KSL) (c) An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing license. (d) Commissioner of Oaths and Notary Public (e) Six (6) years’ experience. (f) Computer literate. |
4. HOTEL MANAGER – GRADE 12 – MKSU/ HR /HM/18 |

Job Description
This position reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Planning and Finance and is responsible for efficient and effective running of the university’s Hotel through sound leadership and coordination of all operations which are House-keeping, marketing, food preparation, restaurants, bars, banqueting & reception so as to maximize revenue opportunities. Main Responsibilities: a) Manage all operations of the Hotel b) Put in place expenditure control measures c) Prepare annual procurement plans, work plans and Hotel Budgets d) Establish Hotel performance targets e) Ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the operations of the Hotel f) Ensure maximum and efficient utilization of all Hotel resources, both physical and human g) Ensure Self Sustainability and net profit income of over 40% Job Requirements: a) Have KCSE C (Plain) and above b) Have Higher National Diploma in Hotel Management /Hospitality Management with eight (8) years’ experience in a busy establishment of similar status OR c) Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Institution Management / Hospitality Management or its equivalent with five (5) years’ experience in a busy establishment of similar status In addition the applicant should; d) Be Computer Literate e) Basic qualification in Accounting will be an added advantage f) Be of High integrity g) Attach Academic and Professional Qualifications, Certificate of Good Conduct, Integrity Certificate, testimonials of Performance |
