CHINESE AMBASSADOR’S VISIT

H.E. DR. ZHOU PINGJIAN, the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya paid a visit to Machakos University on Wednesday, 30th November 2022. The Ambassador and his entourage were cordially welcomed by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lucy Irungu together with the senior members of management of the University.

The visit aimed to have an appointment with the Vice Chancellor, award the Ambassador’s Scholarship to Machakos University students, and have a face-to-face dialogue with the representatives of the students undertaking STEM courses as Ambassador’s Scholarship beneficiaries. The Ambassador had a keen interest in students doing Cloud Computing and Information Security program under the Luban Workshop project at Machakos University. Talking during the occasion, the Ambassador underscored the importance of STEM courses and ICT technology which are the cornerstone of the future development of the world. On the relationship between Kenya and China, the Ambassador said this Ambassador’s Scholarship gesture is an opportunity for both countries to enhance ties and deepen educational cooperation, and offer a chance for Kenyan students to exchange ideas and learn more about the Chinese culture.

The Vice-Chancellor acknowledge and appreciated the Ambassador for visit and for the award of the Ambassador’s Scholarship to Machakos University students. She said it will go a long way in relieving the burden of tuition fee for the beneficiary students. She noted that the Ambassador’s Scholarship will further cement the already existing mutual partnership between Machakos University and Tianjin City Vocational College of China. In addition, the Vice Chancellor said this relationship did not only yield to the construction of the Luban Workshop at Machakos University but also initiated the Bachelor of Science in Cloud Computing and Information Security which has given Machakos University a competitive edge in Kenya.

On behalf of the University, the Vice Chancellor thanked the Kenyan and Chinese Governments for facilitating the partnership between Machakos University and Tianjin City Vocational College and hoped for more cooperation in future.
