Commission for University Education visits Machakos University
Corporate Affairs team from Commission for University Education (CUE) led by Sarah Ooro visited Machakos University on 20th July 2020. On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor-Prof. Lucy Irungu, they were received by Prof. Joyce Agalo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students Affairs. Also present were Prof. Douglas Shitanda- the Deputy Vice Chancellor-Administration, Planning and Finance and Dr. Stephen Mailu-the Deputy Registrar in charge of Academics and Students Affairs.
The aim of the visit was to donate commercial branded umbrellas, branded bags and reflector jackets to Machakos University as part of CUE’s corporate social responsibility. In her remarks, Ms. Sarah Ooro said that as a regulator of universities in Kenya, the commission has embarked on creating awareness of its functions and activities to both students and the public. She said this was a deliberate move by the commission to increase its visibility around the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof.Agalo thanked CUE for the visit and was grateful that Machakos University was among the very first Universities the commission had prioritised for the donations. She also acknowledged the CUE for its continued support for the accreditation of its programs and wished that CUE should keep up this campaign and even participate in Universities activities like innovation and open days in future. She informed the team that Machakos University is a TVET and Engineering based institution and has a lot of innovation like making of hand sanitizers, hand washing machines, face mask etc.
