Machakos University Hosts Nairobi Region Ajira Clubs Leaders Bootcamp

Machakos University reaffirmed its leadership in promoting digital skills development by hosting the Nairobi Region Ajira Clubs Leaders Bootcamp on 3rd October 2025 at the Luban Workshop. The transformative event brought together Ajira Club leaders from various institutions to sharpen their leadership and management skills, strengthen club structures, and build vibrant online work communities.
The bootcamp served as a strategic platform for peer learning, benchmarking, and exchanging best practices among institutionalized Ajira Clubs, with each institution represented by up to five leaders. Through interactive sessions, participants were equipped with practical strategies on leadership, collaborative management, and navigating the evolving gig and freelancing economy.

The event brought together leaders from several universities including the University of Nairobi (UoN), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), United States International University–Africa (USIU), Masai Mara University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Daystar University, Technical University of Kenya (TUK), KCA University, Zetech University.
Machakos University provided an ideal environment for the capacity-building program, underscoring its commitment to supporting national digital transformation initiatives. The institution’s continued collaboration with the Ajira Digital Program aligns with its vision of preparing students for emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
The event featured insightful presentations from distinguished speakers, including Francis Ndolo (Political Communication Strategist, County Government of Machakos), Mary Mutula (Alumini Chairperson and Executive Director, Tuboreshe Pamoja), Jacob Ngumi (Executive Director, Young Professionals for Development), and Michael Muchugia, an Upwork expert. Their sessions inspired the student leaders to embrace visionary leadership, innovation, and personal growth as drivers of sustainable online work ecosystems.
By hosting the bootcamp, Machakos University played a central role in empowering young leaders, fostering inter-institutional collaboration, and advancing the Ajira Digital vision of expanding digital work opportunities across Kenya. Participants left energized to champion digital skills and promote the growth of freelancing communities within their institutions and beyond.
