Machakos University Concludes UNESCO-Led AI in Education Training for TVET Institutions

Machakos University successfully concluded a two-day UNESCO-sponsored training on AI and Digital Learning for TVET institutions, held from 1st–2nd December 2025. A global initiative aimed at equipping educators with future-ready digital skills.

The workshop, which was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joyce J. Agalo, brought together an outstanding team of global partners, including Microsoft, KPMG, Tablet Academy, KSTVET, and the UNESCO Global Education Coalition. Key representatives in attendance included:
- Bijay Dhungana – Tablet Academy
- Roisin Murphy – Head of Global Sustainability, KPMG
- Donna O’Neill – Director, Global Sustainability, KPMG
- Kate Barnes – Director, Global Partnerships, Microsoft
- Lotfi Aoulad – UNESCO Global
The delegation also held strategic discussions with DVC APF, Prof. CPA Florence Memba, and DVC ASA, Prof. James Muola, who reaffirmed the University’s commitment to driving digital innovation and capacity-building.
This training builds on a planning engagement held in May, where UNESCO, Machakos University, Kenya Schools TVET, and global partners developed a coordinated national rollout strategy.
About the Training:
Day 1: Theory on AI integration in education, digital learning ecosystems, ethics, and the evolving role of the educator
Day 2: Practical, hands-on sessions using AI tools and digital learning platforms
The programme is part of an ongoing national initiative to build educator capacity, promote inclusive and affordable learning, and accelerate the integration of AI across Kenya’s TVET institutions.
