Chancellor’s Lecture On Change Management

Machakos University held the Chancellor’s Lecture on Change Management on 25th July 2025 at Kilimambogo Hall, drawing staff, faculty, and leadership into a shared conversation on institutional transformation, strategic culture, and sustainable development.

Themed around corporate culture and institutional adaptability, the lecture was delivered by the University Chancellor, Dr. James Mworia, who emphasized the role of people, culture, and purpose in shaping a future-ready institution. Dr. Mworia challenged staff to reflect on Machakos University’s value proposition, noting that “the intellectual capacity of our people is our greatest asset.” He encouraged the University to align its curriculum with current global trends by fostering critical thinking, digital literacy, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness among students—ultimately preparing them for a competitive global market.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Planning & Finance) described the Chancellor as a visionary leader, stating: “If you have someone before you, you cannot lose the way.” His words reaffirmed the importance of focused leadership in navigating change and building a resilient institution.

The Chancellor’s address also introduced the ‘5 Ps’ of Individual Transformation:

  1. Problem Solving – Focus on solutions, not problems.
  2. Procrastination – Understand the fear of imperfection.
  3. Productivity – Develop a purpose protocol for growth.
  4. Proactiveness – Take initiative to drive progress.
  5. Plateauing – Avoid stagnation through continuous improvement.

He underscored the importance of purpose-driven processes, urging the university to redefine success not by compliance, but by ownership and measurable impact.

The event concluded with interactive feedback, a vote of thanks, and a group photo. This was followed by a closed session where the Chancellor met with the Machakos University scholarship beneficiaries for further engagement and inspiration.

As Machakos University continues on its change journey, this lecture served as a timely reminder that culture, strategy, and people must work in tandem to deliver on its mission—Co-creating Sustainable Futures.
