I am a Lecturer and a Researcher in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Department, School of Engineering and Technology. My research integrates materials science with sustainable engineering, focusing on biodegradable, multifunctional materials for eco-friendly applications.
My work explores the development of advanced materials that combine biodegradability with multifunctionality. This includes the creation of biopolymer-based nanofibers, which offer high surface area, mechanical strength, and tunable porosity, making them suitable for environmentally friendly packaging materials
I am currently investigating the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into mechanical systems to enhance functionality and sustainability. This includes ongoing patents registration on Smart Fuel Level Monitoring System for Pump Stations and Reinventing Cooling: an eco-friendly and smart HVAC Training Kit from salvaged parts, Intelligent solar powered lawn mower, GymPawa (Featured in The Presidential Challenge & Award Challenge, 2025)
The interdisciplinary approach in research positions me at the forefront of sustainable materials science, aiming to bridge the gap between eco-friendly materials and advanced smart technological applications in the industry.
Some of the interesting research contributions involved by Mr. Weramwanja to unlock the potential of locally developed materials in Engineering include:
