Machakos University Exhibits Indigenous Innovations at the Engineering Partnerships Convention 2025

Machakos University proudly participated in the Engineering Partnerships Convention 2025 (EPC 2025), held from May 7th to 9th 2025 at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, themed “Engineering a Digital World.”

EPC 2025 addressed key themes such as:

  • Engineering role in the national economic growth and infrastructure development.
  • The transformation of public service delivery through Huduma Kenya.
  • Challenges and opportunities in Intra-African trade.
  • The emergence of smart, data-driven cities.

Machakos University at the Forefront of Innovations

At the exhibition arena, Machakos University was represented by Dr. Charles Mwaniki, Dean School of Engineering and Technology, Ms. Caroline Athuman, COD Building and Civil Engineering Department, Mr. Humphrey Mwambaji, Technologist at the Luban Workshop, and Mr. Dickson Esamai, an Engineering student at the university. The Machakos University exhibition stand stood out for its display of indigenous innovations, developed through a blend of traditional knowledge and cutting-edge engineering principles. Among the highlights were cost-effective smart grid solutions and robotics-powered infrastructure monitoring systems, reflecting the University’s commitment to practical, locally relevant technological solutions.

A moment of pride came when Dickson Esamai Mukwe, a student innovator from the University, was recognized as the second-best innovator among over 500 participants. His project, the “Robox Farm”, integrates robotics into sustainable agriculture, offering a promising solution to food security and farm efficiency. His achievement underscores the critical role young engineers from Machakos University are playing in solving real-world challenges through innovation.

Driving the Future: Engineering Meets Public Policy

EPC 2025 also featured a spotlight session on Huduma Kenya, demonstrating how integrated digital platforms have revolutionized service delivery. Engineering and technology continue to play a vital role in simplifying access to government services, improving transparency, and enhancing citizen satisfaction.

The delegates also discussed smart cities and explored how technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning can make African cities more habitable, efficient, and sustainable. Projects such as the Konza Technopolis were showcased as leading examples of the digital city revolution in Kenya.

The Machakos University remains dedicated to equipping its students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Kenya’s digital and economic transformation.
