Machakos University Hosts International Youth Day 2025: Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future.

Machakos University was honoured to host International Youth Day 2025 celebrations on 12^th August, 2025, themed “Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future.” The event, organized by Youth for Sustainable Development (YSD) Machakos, brought together young people, community leaders, and key stakeholders committed to driving sustainable change.

The YSD delegation, led by the Executive Director, Ms. Margaret Wanja, was warmly received by Machakos University, Prof. James Muola-Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic & Student Affairs, and Prof. Stanley Makindi- Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Research, Innovation & Linkages, during a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor’s Office. The Professors officially welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, before proceeding to the day’s events.

In the true spirit of youth-led action, Youth for Sustainable Development (YSD), as the official convener, brought together youth groups, civil society actors, government representatives, and community stakeholders to collaborate and co-create solutions for a better future.

The day featured a wide array of engaging activities, including:

• A blood drive led by the Kenya Red Cross
• Youth exhibitions showcasing diverse products and services
• Football matches at the Machakos University grounds
• Panel discussions on entrepreneurship, creative arts, sports, governance, and civic education.

This year’s theme was anchored on the “4Ts framework”- a locally developed model that reflects the priorities and aspirations of young people.

Through thought-provoking discussions, interactive sessions, sporting activities, and collaborative networking, participants reaffirmed the pivotal role of youth in shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable future.
