Machakos University Hosts Transformational UCSPAK Eastern Region Student Leaders Fellowship Program

Machakos University proudly hosted the Eastern Region Student Leaders Fellowship Program under the auspices of the University and college Students Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK) from May 12th to 13th, 2025. The two-day event brought together students’ leaders and Deans of Students from six higher educational institutions across the Eastern Region.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Joyce Agalo, the Vice Chancellor of Machakos University, who emphasized the importance of Discipline, values-based leadership and servant leadership among student’s leaders. “Leadership is more than influence it is a commitment to integrity, service and positive transformation”, she said during her keynote address.

The Eastern Region Fellowship is part of the broader 2025 UCSPAK Student Leaders Fellowship Program being implemented across all eight regions of Kenya. The program aims to equip student leaders with essential skills in governance, peacebuilding, civic education, digital activism, and environmental stewardship.
The fellowship focused on four main themes: National security and peacebuilding, Digital peacebuilding and activism, Patriotism and transformational leadership, Dispute resolution mechanisms the themes were facilitated by experts, the sessions had engaging interactive methodologies such as case-based discussions, mentorship dialogues, and feedback sessions.
Amani Gardens Project
The opening of UCSPAK Amani Garden at Machakos University symbolizing peace, sustainability, and collective responsibility. The garden will feature both indigenous and fruit trees which were planted by participants. The garden will serve as a living peace monument and mentorship space. This garden is set to be replicated across all participating institutions.

The program sets a milestone in nurturing a new generation of student leaders who are not only passionate about change but also equipped with the tools to champion it responsibly.
