Machakos University Prepares Future Educators for April-August Attachment

The Machakos University School of Education, Teaching Practice office, successfully hosted its annual briefing for second and third year students scheduled for attachment and shadowing from April to August 2025. The session, which was held on Monday, 14th April 2025 at the University Amphitheater, attracted a large number of eager students, all preparing for the critical component of their academic journey.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Stanley Makindi, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Research, Innovation and Linkages, who emphasized the need for students’ exemplary conduct throughout the attachment period, reminding them that they continue to represent Machakos University. Prof. Makindi further encouraged the students to maintain high standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism, both at their placement institutions and in their personal lives.

The briefing also featured two distinguished guest speakers:

  • Ms. Margaret Owaka -Principal of Katheka-Kai Secondary School, who emphasized the honor and responsibility associated with the teaching profession. She encouraged the students to embrace their roles as mentors and role models, highlighting the need for discipline, compassion, and readiness to support learners. Ms. Owaka also underscored the importance of securing a Teacher Service Commission (TSC) registration number for securing future employment in the education sector.
  • Rev. Benson Manoo -Chief Principal of Machakos School, offered critical insights into the TSC Code of Conduct and Ethics, the Basic Education Act, and the School Culture. Rev. Manoo discussed the leadership principles outlined in Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution and urged students to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.

The Teaching Practice Coordinator, Dr. Francis Mutua, delivered the closing remarks, thanking the students for their active participation. He reinforced the importance of punctuality, consistency, and discipline, as he assured the students of the University‘s commitment to supporting them throughout their attachment period. Dr. Mutua further wished the students well in their forthcoming practical engagements.

The 2025 Teaching Practice Briefing was undoubtedly a resounding success, which left the students well-informed, motivated, and ready to embark on their attachment journey with confidence and motivation.
