On Sunday, 20th July 2025, Machakos University staff honoured an invitation by Kitikyumu FC for a series of friendly football matches in an event that proved to be more than just a game. The matches successfully blended sportsmanship, staff bonding, and strategic community engagement.
In the opening match, Machakos University Staff FC faced off against Kitikyumu Legends FC. The match highlighted experience and teamwork, ending in a 1-1 draw. Peter Kivindyo netted the equalizer for Machakos University, completing a well-executed team play that demonstrated cohesion and preparation.
The second encounter was against Vision FC, a younger, energetic team that tested the stamina and strategy of the university squad. Despite the age gap, Machakos University put up a spirited performance, narrowly losing 4-3 in a high-tempo game. University goals came from Kelvin Mbithi, Albert Kitaka, and Tony Kitonga.
Beyond the action on the pitch, the event served as an effective platform to market Machakos University to the local community. Residents showed great admiration for the institution, with many fans taking photos with the university team and engaging in conversations about the institution’s offerings. The interaction generated excitement and strengthened the university’s visibility in the region.
Such outreach initiatives are vital in strengthening internal staff relations while also reinforcing the university’s brand presence. They create memorable connections with local communities and build bridges beyond academic walls.
The Kitikyumu hosts expressed their appreciation and enthusiasm, committing to a return match, this time at Machakos University grounds. The spirit of sportsmanship continues to thrive, as does the growing bond nurtured through football.
