Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Award 

Machakos University is proud to announce that 20 of its exceptional students have been honored with the prestigious Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Award at the Luban Workshop on Thursday, April 25^th, 2024.

In attendance were the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors in charge of Administration, Planning and Finance, Academic and Student Affairs, Research, Innovation, and Linkages, as well as the Dean of Students, Deans, Department Chairs, and the awardees.

Vice Chancellor’s Remarks:

The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship program, highlighting that this year, 7 students from the School of Pure and Applied Science and 13 students from the School of Engineering were among the recipients. This scholarship will enable students to fully dedicate themselves to their studies.

Luban Workshop and Future Collaborations:

Machakos University takes pride in launching the first Luban Workshop in Kenya in the year of 2019, an initiative that originated from China. This workshop has empowered students to pursue careers and projects in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Cloud Computing courses.

Looking ahead, Machakos University eagerly anticipates collaborating on exchange programs with Tianjin Vocational Institute to further enhance educational opportunities for its staff and students.

UNESCO Chair on Cloud Computing:

In January 2023, Machakos University was awarded the UNESCO Chair on Cloud Computing for Sustainable Development within the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme. This four-year initiative will focus on addressing crucial themes such as Health and Well-being, Agriculture and Food Security, Education and Training, Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability and Space Science and Surveillance.

The purpose of the UNESCO Chair is to promote an integrated system of research, training and information dissemination on cloud computing for sustainable development, facilitating collaboration among high-level researchers and teaching staff from various institutions.

Ambassador Pingjian’s Congratulations:

Ambassador Zhou Pingjian congratulated all the scholarship awardees, emphasizing the fruitful educational collaboration between China and Kenya over the past sixty years. The scholarship award program remains a cherished initiative of the Chinese Embassy.
