Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World Global Women’s Breakfast

The breakfast meeting organized by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) at Strathmore University, Kenya on 27^th February 2024, under the theme “Catalyzing diversity in Science” was a significant event that aimed to inspire and empower participants to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including high school and university students, as well as industry and academic professionals, to foster dialogue, networking, and mentorship opportunities

The main objective of the event was to promote diversity and inclusivity in STEM fields by providing informative and inspirational talks from local speakers with high-profile STEM backgrounds. These speakers shared their personal journeys, insights, and lessons learned, highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion in the scientific community.

In addition to the keynote speeches and presentations, the event also featured interactive sessions, including a speed mentoring session, where participants had the opportunity to receive career guidance and advice from seasoned professionals in their respective fields of interest. Machakos University Students Go Green Club

Furthermore, the event showcased the achievements of students, such as the Machakos University Students Go Green Club representatives (Robert Okecha, Alphine Ouma, Elijah Moogi, Christabel Musyoka and Edwin Shihaji), who presented their organic chemistry models made from locally biodegradable materials. This demonstration not only highlighted the creativity and innovation of young scientists but also underscored the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness in STEM education and research.
