Machakos University Stakeholders Breakfast Forum

Machakos University held a successful Stakeholders Breakfast Forum on Thursday, 19th November 2024, at the university’s hotel and conference center. The event, themed “Lead Her, Propel Her Purpose He & She,” aimed to strengthen relationships between the university and its various stakeholders. This was towards aligning efforts into realizing its five-year Strategic Plan spanning from 2023-2024 to 2027-2028.

The event was graced by esteemed guests, including: County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Education – Dr. Consolata Mutisya. CECM Water, Irrigation, Environment, Sanitation & Climate Change – Honorable Catherine Mutanu, CECM Agriculture, Food Security, and Cooperative Development – Dr. Joel Nzomo. Deputy Governor of Machakos County – Honorable Francis Mwangangi, Representative of County Commissioner, DCC of Matungulu Sub County – Hon. Josephine Ouko. Machakos County Senate representative Honorable Michael Mutua, Machakos County Women Representative – Hon. Joyce Kamene

The forum also saw participation from university service providers and stakeholders from diverse sectors, including insurance, banking, education, manufacturing, business and entrepreneurship.

The forum commenced with welcoming remarks from the Vice Chancellor Professor Joyce Agalo. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation of the institution core mandate.

Representing Machakos University Chairman of Council, Dr. Christopher Gakahu, Dr. Mercy Kanyara shared insights and updates on the university’s strategic direction and collaborative efforts.

Our first speaker was Hon. Evelyne Wekesa Representing Machakos County Commissioner DCC of Matungulu Sub County. She addressed the role of women in leadership, emphasizing the importance of women’s participation in positions of decision-making especially on issues that directly affect women. She highlighted that Machakos County commited to achieving the vision outlined in the 2010 Constitution, particularly the gender rule requiring a two-thirds representation of either gender in public and private sectors.

Madam Evelyne Wekesa expressed her appreciation to Machakos University for her efforts in supporting women’s work-life balance through the establishment of a crèche center. This initiative not only promotes gender inclusivity but also provides practical support to women pursuing their educational and professional aspirations while balancing family responsibilities.

The second speaker, was Prof. Raphael Muatine Munavu, Chairman, Konza Technopolis Board of Directors. He highlighted that the vision for future industries is driven by knowledge and skill development, underscoring the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving this vision.

Representing the Guest Speaker, Machakos County Governor Hon. Wavinya Ndeti, was the Deputy Governor, Hon. Francis Mwangangi. He highlighted the significance of fostering strategic collaborations to achieve shared objectives and mutual benefits between Machakos University and the local government. Emphasizing the importance of leveraging combined resources, expertise, and networks, the discussion focused on driving educational excellence, innovation and community development through coordinated efforts.
