Smooth Transition of Leadership as Machakos University Welcomes the New Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Planning and Finance

In a ceremony marked by warmth, reflection, and anticipation for the future, Machakos University today, 11th August 2025, officially welcomed its new Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration, Planning and Finance during a handover ceremony held at the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom. The occasion brought together senior University leaders, underscoring the institution’s commitment to seamless leadership transitions and sustained excellence in governance.

The event was graced by members of the University Management Board led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Joyce Agalo, alongside Deans of Schools, Directors, and Heads of Departments.

The ceremony began with the formal introduction of all members present, after which the Deputy Vice Chancellors heading the three divisions providing brief highlights of their respective areas outlining key responsibilities and shared how their divisions contribute to advancing the University’s Vision and Mission.

This was followed by welcoming remarks from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, who outlined the University’s mandate and reaffirmed its commitment to quality education, research, and community service. She emphasized that the complementary functions of the three divisions work in synergy to promote academic excellence, improve operational efficiency, and deepen stakeholder engagement.

The outgoing Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (APF) Prof. Mugendi M’Rithaa reflected on his tenure, expressing gratitude for the support of the University leadership and staff during his period of service.

The incoming Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration, Planning and Finance), Prof. Florence Memba, articulated her vision for the division, emphasizing a commitment to transparent governance, strategic resource management, and fostering operational excellence across the University.

The highlight of the ceremony was the formal handover of statutory documents comprising the University ACT of 2012, University Charter 2016, University Statutes 2019, Staff establishment 2022, 2023/2024 – 2027/2028 Strategic plan, that will serve as essential references in guiding Prof. Memba’s leadership.

In her closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor, lauded the outgoing Ag. DVC, for his dedicated stewardship, noting his instrumental role in supporting the execution of strategic projects. The Vice Chancellor commended his professionalism, collaborative spirit, and commitment to excellence, which have left a lasting mark on the Administration, Planning, and Finance Division. Turning to the incoming DVC (APF), Prof. Florence Memba, the Vice Chancellor expressed her confidence in her leadership abilities. She assured her of the Management’s full support as she embarks on steering the division towards new heights of efficiency, innovation, and institutional growth.
