EXPLORATORY VISIT TO ESTABLISH STRATEGIC LINKAGES BETWEEN HUNAN UNIVERSITY AND MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY ON 27TH AUGUST 2019
At the invitation of Prof. Mugendi M’Rithaa, Professor of Industrial Design at Machakos University, two faculty members from Hunan University in the city of Changsha, China namely the Dean of the School of Design, Prof. He Renke and his colleague Prof. Jun Zhang, made a detailed presentation of their School, specifically website address, number of students and faculty, academic programmes, projects, and potential themes for further linkages. Discussed and agreed on issues of the linkage between the Department of Fashion Design and Marketing (Machakos University) and the School of Design (Hunan University). It was further agreed that the two entities collaborate on a Design for Tourism, and Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability Projects, whose areas of engagement shall run for five (5) years to include: Mobility and exchange programme for faculty and students; Digitisation of ethnic material culture Technical collaboration for hardware and software for design and manufacture of fashion products Facilitate joint workshop/training on capacity building Joint research on sustainable product design Jointly apply for research grants and Share best practices and exemplars in pedagogy and praxis. Additionally, Professors Renke and Zhang paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) for Research, Innovation and Linkages (RIL)….
COURTESY CALL ON DAAD REGIONAL OFFICES
The Deputy Vice Chancellor-Research Innovation and Linkages, Prof. Peter Mwita today paid a courtesy call to the New DAAD Regional Director, Beate Schindler –Kovats at her office in Nairobi. During the visit on 8th August 2019, they discussed several issues such as available funding opportunities for collaboration and networking with German Universities and several upcoming conferences. Prof. Mwita also took the opportunity to invite the new Director to pay a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lucy Irungu.
iVoting System Gains National Recognition
At the invitation by the Ministry of Education, our students who invented the Ivoting (Intelligent Voting) System to made a moving presentation at the Ministry Headquarters on 1st August, 2019. Disturbed by the effects malpractices every electioneering period, Machakos University, Engineering student, Kelvin Roman Njoroge wondered through the odds and invented Intelligent Voting (iVoting), a foolproof computerized voting system. The system or iVoting, copyright, is the first ever self-replicating, adaptive voting system in the world designed to be a lasting global solution to all voting modes and to achieve free, fair, credible & secure voting. This coupled with its ease of use brings convenience to the voter to their doorstep. The system is designed for everyone regardless of location, race, and class and network coverage and can be found at https://ivoting.co.ke The Ministry officials and other people present commended the students and lauded the University for nurturing talents and innovations.
